Sustainable Living

Sustainable living is becoming increasingly important in today’s world and is recognized by all. Furniture shops and interior design companies are also realizing that sustainable products are in high demand. This makes it much easier to live sustainably now than it was in the past. As sustainable living is expected to be one of the living trends nowadays, we would like to share information about sustainable interiors and how to choose sustainable flooring options.

Materials

A significant aspect of your interior design will depend on the materials you choose to furnish the space. Consider materials like wood, rattan, stone, and jute, as well as organic cotton, linen, and wool. These materials are often produced using sustainable methods, provided they have the right certifications. They have less environmental impact than conventional fabrics like polyester or other plastics. Additionally, recycling sustainable and conventional materials to give them a second life has become increasingly popular!

We hear you asking: “But isn’t vinyl also plastic? Are these floors durable?” The answer is yes! Most floors within the Tile Vinyl, Forest Vinyl, and Village Vinyl collections are durable and sustainable flooring options. This is because in production we do not use harmful plasticizers. Instead, we use a plasticizer obtained from the oil of soybeans, which is also used in food products. Although we don’t recommend tasting the floorboards, we assure you that you can enjoy your Vinyl floor without any worries!

Usage Class

At Floer, sustainability is one of our core values. We focus on producing high-quality products that can last a long time, while also using sustainable business practices. That’s why choosing a durable floor from Floer is always a good choice! When selecting a floor, it is important to consider its usage class. A higher usage class indicates that the floor is suitable for intensive use in both domestic and commercial settings, and will last a long time despite frequent use. Laminate and vinyl floors with a usage class of AC 4 or higher will therefore last even longer, which is not only good for your wallet but also for the environment.

“By choosing sustainable flooring and interiors, you can contribute to a healthier planet and lifestyle, while also benefiting aesthetically and financially!”

Furnishing

To live more sustainably, it is important to consider not only the materials you use but also how you furnish your home. By consciously choosing sustainable products and adopting a green lifestyle, you can contribute to a healthy planet and a healthy life for you and your family. Instead of buying new furniture, consider going to second-hand shops. Often, a little makeover and a lick of paint can make second-hand furniture shine like new again. This way, you can have a “new” piece of furniture while also reducing waste.

When we think of sustainability, we often think of nature and the outdoors. You can bring a touch of the outdoors inside by adding plants to your interior. Plants not only improve the aesthetic of your space but also provide healthy air and a natural atmosphere in your home. While you’re out shopping, consider buying a new pot for your green friend. They’ll appreciate the upgrade 😉

Maintenance

Living sustainably is not just about reducing your carbon footprint, but also about maintaining your belongings properly to ensure they last longer. By doing so, you can avoid having to replace items frequently, contributing less to landfills. Here are a few tips to maintain your home and floors sustainably:

  • Maintain your items regularly – Regularly cleaning and maintaining your belongings is important, especially when it comes to your floor. To keep your floor in good condition, make sure to vacuum it regularly. This will reduce the chance of damage caused by pebbles or sand.
  • Use natural detergents – Stubborn dirt on the floor? It can happen! Get out the mop to remove the dirt, but be careful what you mop with. Many commercial cleaners are not long-lasting and can damage your floor. Avoid using all-purpose cleaners or abrasives, and instead, use an appropriate cleaner such as a special laminate cleaner or vinyl cleaner. Don’t want extra bottles cluttering your kitchen cupboard? You can also use normal washing-up liquid or a dash of cleaning vinegar to mop your floor.
  • Repair rather than replace – If a board breaks, there’s no need to replace your entire floor at once. Instead, repair your floor by replacing only the broken board with a new one. It would be a shame to replace the boards that are still intact.
  • Prevention is better than cure – As my grandfather used to say, “Prevention is better than cure,” and it’s true! So take good care of your belongings to prevent them from breaking easily. When you buy a new floor, add a nice mat to your shopping basket. A doormat will ensure that most dirt, moisture, and sand are left at the door. This way, you can avoid scratches and damage!

And that’s why you should live sustainably!

There are many reasons to choose sustainable living and adopt sustainable flooring in your home. By living sustainably, you can protect the planet and reduce your carbon footprint. In addition, sustainable products are often made from natural materials, which can contribute to a healthy living environment for you and your family. Proper maintenance will also ensure that sustainable products last longer. Beyond these practical benefits, there are aesthetic benefits as well. Using second-hand products and incorporating natural materials into your home can create a unique and distinctive look that no one else will have.
