Cleaning and maintaining your floor
When cleaning and maintaining your floor, it’s important to know what you should and shouldn’t do. This ensures that your laminate or vinyl floor stays looking great and isn’t damaged by the wrong detergents. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy your floor for longer. Proper cleaning and maintenance will keep your floor in great condition. Before you start cleaning, be sure to read this article carefully.
The biggest culprit for a floor
The biggest culprit for damaging a floor is sand and small stones. They often cause harm to the top layer of the floor. However, you can avoid this! At the very least, place a cleaning mat at the front door. If you have a garden door, it’s advisable to put a doormat there too. This way, your parquet, laminate, or vinyl floor is protected from damage. A doormat ensures that most dirt, sand, and moisture remain at the door.
Vacuuming
If you come across dirt on your doormat, grab the vacuum cleaner! Regular vacuuming is the key to reducing the risk of damage from sand and small stones. By vacuuming, you ensure that the sand and stones do not remain on the floor for long periods of time. To further protect your floor, use a brush attachment while vacuuming. If your floor has a V-groove, ensure that you give this area extra attention with the vacuum to avoid any potential damage.
Cleaning detergents
Is your floor dirty and do you find it difficult to remove stubborn dirt? Sometimes mopping the floor is necessary. For parquet floors, it is best to use floor soap. This cleans the floor and applies a thin protective layer, which helps protect it from scratches caused by sand and stones. Two types of maintenance products are available for oak parquet floors: White Floor Soap and Natural Floor Soap.
Do you have a vinyl or laminate floor? We have special cleaners for these floors: Laminate Floor Cleaner and Vinyl Floor Cleaner. Alternatively, you can use normal washing-up liquid or a small amount of cleaning vinegar.
Do not use this when cleaning and maintaining your floor!
Do not use cleaning products such as all-purpose cleaners or abrasives to clean your vinyl or laminate floors. This applies to all laminate, vinyl, and parquet floors. Contrary to popular belief, these detergents are not suitable for cleaning floors and can seriously damage the laminate or vinyl. They can cause a dull glow or colour change and can even damage the top layer of the floor beyond repair if used frequently.
Also, do not use a steam cleaner on your laminate or vinyl floor! The high pressure and heat of the steam can easily get between the grooves and seams of the laminate’s click-connection, causing damage beyond repair. Using a steam cleaner for vinyl floors is also strongly advised against, as the high temperature can cause the glue used to attach the floor to the surface to come loose. The chance of a steam cleaner damaging your floor is therefore very high. We strongly advise against using it on a Floer.
Mopping your floor
If you’re wondering how to take care of your laminate or wooden floors, it’s important to keep in mind the amount of water you use when mopping. If your floors are not waterproof, it’s important to avoid using too much water. However, with our waterproof coated laminate floors, you can mop your floors without worrying about damage. While occasional mopping is fine, it’s crucial to avoid leaving your floors damp for extended periods or making them soaking wet. If you do find a small puddle of moisture, it’s best to dry it with a cloth or towel. To speed up the drying process, simply open your doors and windows. By following these simple guidelines, your floors will stay in great condition for years to come! 😌
