Boho-Chic Interior
As you may know, there are many types of interiors and living styles, ranging from minimalist in black and white to eclectic in a variety of colours. But what is a boho chic interior? Which category does it fall under? And which floors are suitable for such an interior? In this blog, we will provide you with all the information you need to know about boho chic interiors, so keep reading!
Boho vs Bohemian Chic
We have previously talked about the bohemian style in interior design. With this style, you can transform your own home into a cottage reminiscent of Ibiza or another warm island by incorporating elements that give off a Mediterranean vibe. But if you want to take it a step further, then consider bohemian chic! This furnishing style combines the tropical and exotic feel of a boho interior with the luxury and glamour of a high-end living style. The resulting mix is similar to what you might find in a subtropical hotel in the Maldives.
In the bohemian style, white serves as the basic colour, much like in Scandinavian interiors. However, in contrast to Scandi interiors, this white is paired with bright colours and abundant accessories. This is not surprising, as the word “bohemian” comes from French and refers to revolutionaries from the 19th century who were known for their rebelliousness, individualism, and desire for freedom. So, feel free to express yourself fully within this decor!
Start with the basics and install a matching floor in the room before adding any other decor. A good start is half the battle! For a boho chic interior, there are many types of floors to choose from, but you can never go wrong with a wood-look floor. Since white is a great basic colour, you can opt for white laminate flooring, which will make the colours in your home stand out. If you prefer a less conventional floor, check out robust flooring, or for the true boho lover, a Reclaimed Wood Laminate floor! This type of laminate flooring has a unique vintage pattern that stands out and creates a special atmosphere in your space.
Bohemian chic colours
As we mentioned before, a white base is an excellent starting point for the colour palette of a bohemian chic interior. However, if you’re not in the mood for white, you can opt for mostly calm and neutral natural tones like beige, taupe, or brown. Choose one or more walls to be painted in a different colour to create a good contrast. Adding furniture in several colours can also add to the boho vibe. For example, a cool armchair in turquoise, an antique wooden cupboard with a yellow ochre coating, or a storage box in a purple shade would fit right in. You can also achieve a boho chic look by using materials such as velvet, corduroy, or beautifully patterned fabrics. To add a warm glow to your room, hang an oriental lamp in a golden shade.
The colour of your interior can be reflected in the floor. If a floor with a reclaimed wood look is too much for you, you can opt for a neutral and calm Oak Parquet floor. The neutral look of the floor will highlight the things you want to emphasize. The beauty of oak parquet floors is that they can be fully customized to your liking. If you prefer a lighter interior, go for a white-oiled floor. If you prefer to add a darker shade to your living style, choose a dark finish for the floor. If you ever get tired of your floor, you can re-sand it, apply a new layer of oil, and give your entire floor a makeover!
Boho chic accessoires
For a bohemian living style, you can go all out with accessories, as we mentioned earlier. But for a bohemian-chic look, you can dress up even more elaborately! Choose a colourful mix of materials, styles, and looks that, at first glance, do not match. Put them together and voila! You have an exciting combination of accessories. Above all, add some shades of gold, and don’t be too frugal. Multiple mirrors on the wall never hurt anyone, right? A plant here, a vase there with some dried flowers, and a big cowboy cactus in the corner, and your boho-chic interior is ready!
Are you a traveler who likes to bring back souvenirs from your faraway travels? Put them on display in your home! Did you pick up an old-school surfboard? Hang it on the wall! Found a unique instrument somewhere that no one remembers how to play? Who cares, put it on display! This way, you always have an interesting story to tell when you have people over.
Speaking of the floor, if you have some nice rugs, be sure to put them down. After all, a boho interior is incomplete without a nice rug on the floor. Do you have more rugs? Hang them up as wall hangings for that extra exotic touch. Don’t have any wall tapestries for storage? Even with an acoustic wall panel in a warm mahogany wood colour, you can add that ‘wow’ factor to the space. Then, should you go and try to play that strange instrument, your neighbours will be a little less bothered…😉
