This will save you a lot of research and give you more time to apply these interior trends in your own home! So, hot chocolate ready? Here we go!

  1. Serenity

  3. Multifunctionality
  4. Comfort

1. Serenity

You will also see many of the 2022 home trends next year. One of these interior trends is bringing the serenity of nature into the home. Since the pandemic, we have become much more aware of how our home can influence our emotions and feelings, making it much more important to take a critical look at your furnishings. As Marie Kondo once said: ‘Does it spark joy?’ No? Perhaps it is time to sort things out and put things that can be thrown away back into the cycle. This will ‘de-clutter’ the house, and make room for new memories and things!

And this ‘de-cluttering’ is one of the most important interior trends of 2023! Serenity can currently be found in various home styles, including the Japandi living style and the Scandi living style. These ‘calm’ living styles also include calm accessories and shapes. An interior trend that is currently popular is round abstract shapes with organic lines. Let’s just say that corners are a thing of the past 😉 The only corners that fit into a calm interior are the corners on the floor. That’s right, the corners of a herringbone floor. Because these floors are here to stay in this decade’s interior trends. Is a herringbone floor too busy for a small room? It can be, but it does not have to be a problem! By choosing the ‘big brother’ of the herringbone laminate, Whalebone Laminate, you can create a quieter floor surface without missing out on the herringbone pattern. This XL herringbone laminate floor is available in four natural colours to suit any interior. It is also easy to install, waterproof for up to 4 hours and indistinguishable from real wood.

2. Sustainability

We will also see a lot of the sustainability trend in 2023. This makes sense, as in recent years we have become much more aware of the environmental footprint we leave behind. Therefore, sustainability is not a new interior trend of 2023, but one that will continue to come back over the next few years. Thrift stores are back in vogue, second-hand furniture is being refurbished and reused, and we are becoming more conscious of what we use and what we throw away. As part of the sustainability trend, it is important to look at what you buy so that you can use it for longer. ‘Fast furniture’ is out, and sturdy furniture that will lasts a while is all the rage. Apart from the fact that the furniture is much stronger, we also take better care of it. At Floer we also think it is important to work in a sustainable way, so we are happy to be part of this trend!

3. Multifunctionality

Another trend that we have picked up from the pandemic is the multi-functionality of your interior. As mentioned above, we are much more aware of the ‘vibe’ that our room radiates and the fact that we are more at home, partly because we work from home. As we spend more time at home, it is important that the spaces are multifunctional. No room for an office at home? Get a nice dividing wall in the living room and create a cosy work corner behind it. Finished working? Easily tidy up the partition for next time! Other examples of multifunctional furniture include beds with storage space, extendable dining tables and folding sofas.

Not only should a piece of furniture be multifunctional, it should also be beautiful! A popular interior trend that is both multifunctional and beautiful is wooden wall panels! Many people add a wooden wall panel to a room to make it more cosy, or to break up an empty wall. Floer’s Akupanel wall panels are not only beautiful to look at, they also improve the acoustics in the room. The sound-absorbing panels are therefore multifunctional and fit into any interior. One more thing to tick off the list of home trends, check!

4. Comfort

The trend for comfort is nothing new, but over the years many materials have been replaced by comfortable alternatives. A beanbag is no longer made of cheap polyester, but is now become a stylish and comfortable XL armchair with a beautiful corduroy fabric. Large multifunctional sofas that you convert into a large sofa bed for cosy evenings in front of the TV are also essential. Comfort is reflected not only in the materials of the interior, but also in the convenience that furniture and furnishings bring to your space.

Convenience is also a big part of comfort, and we all know how busy we are these days. Then convenience is a desirable feature! Convenience comes in all shapes and sizes, including floors! In the past, laying a floor was a major job that may have taken days; now they can be laid instantly! Floors are also much easier to maintain, which is great in a household where there is not much time for… er… housework 😉 Take Vinyl floors for example; these floors are completely waterproof, 100% safe for four-legged friends or small children and are also super realistic! A Vinyl floor also is also comfortable to walk on and has the lowest heat resistance, making it ideal for underfloor heating. And speaking of comfort, they are maintenance free! They just need to be vacuumed and mopped occasionally and they are as good as new.

5. Beige, black and bronze

Last but not least, the colours of your interior. We would like to point out that the use of colour in an interior determines the atmosphere of the room, so take a moment to think about this. What ‘vibe’ do you want to give to the space; a minimalist clean feel, a luxurious hotel feel or a cosy and colourful experience? Three colours that will definitely return in 2023 are beige, black and bronze. In addition to these three colours, you will certainly see white, grey, blue and gold. Green is another colour that we will also see a lot of, especially as it is one of the colours of the year! We also see green in the plants we bring into our interior. We need fresh air and life in our homes and plants can fulfill this need!

One trend that we will certainly see again is mega plants in the home, such as a towering Strelitzia or a fully grown Monstera. As well as green, you will also see a lot of beige and black, with accents of gold and bronze. These metal accents give your interior a luxurious look. Beige is a common colour, especially in wall colours or carpets. Whatever colour you choose for your interior, an untreated oak floor will never look out of place. Untreated oak vinyl floors are endlessly popular, no wonder the Floer Orka Untreated floor is doing so well. Whatever interior you choose, this extra large herringbone vinyl floor will never match the colours on the wall.

These were the interior trends of 2023. We are curious which trends we will see (return) in the new year. Do you have a favourite interior style that we absolutely should write about? Let us know!

Floer wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
