You’ve just #floored with a beautiful Vinyl floor and the room looks (almost) perfect. Did you drop a glass of red wine? Or are glue residues showing after installing a new floor? Do you suddenly see stains appearing on your Vinyl floor over time? Whatever the situation, it’s not pleasant. Have you tried everything, are you at a loss and does the question: How can I remove stains on a Vinyl floor feel like one of the great mysteries of all time? Don’t worry, we’re here to help with handy tips to make you and your floor shine again. Read on so we can take a look together at the most common problems and how you can tackle them.

Remove dull spots on floor / soap residue

We’re off to a fresh start! In most cases, dull spots are very easy to remove and preventing them from reappearing is also a small effort! Dull spots on a floor or stains that appear over time are often caused by excess and dried soap residue on a floor. It is crucial to remove these residues. Do you mop your Whalebone Vinyl floor with all-purpose cleaner or any other cleaning product? We strongly discourage this. Products such as all-purpose cleaner, cleaning vinegar and similar detergents can damage the appearance of the floor and in most cases are the culprits for creating dull spots on a Vinyl floor. Prevention is better than cure, so in the future it is better to avoid these products when cleaning your floor. But luckily cure is also an option! Dull spots can easily be removed by mopping your floor for a longer period (at least 4 to 6 weeks) with lukewarm water only. This will ensure that the soap residues are removed from the floor without using harsh chemicals and, in most cases, the dull spots will disappear over time!

How do I get stains out of a Vinyl floor?

Have you accidentally walked in mud or dropped a glass of red wine? Even if you’re so careful with your gem of a Floer, accidents can happen. To reduce the chances and, with any luck, even prevent such situations from causing permanent damage, it is important to take immediate action. Because with the right approach, these stains are easy to remove. Gently dab the stain with a soft cloth or kitchen paper and in this way remove excess moisture. It is important not to rub as this may actually spread it. You can then mop the floor with lukewarm water (without detergent!).

Remove stubborn stains

Do you have stubborn stains on your Vinyl floor and want to remove them? And have you already followed the cleaning advice but persistent stains remain on the floor? For these tricky situations, consider using a mild cleaner specially designed for floors such as Herringbone Vinyl flooring. Always follow the instructions on the packaging and avoid excessive use of aggressive cleaning agents. This way, you will take the best care of your floor.

Remove glue residues from Vinyl flooring

Has the floor just been laid and you see glue residue on the floorboards? Then it’s best to do nothing for a while first. Grab a cup of coffee, run an errand or just relax. The glue has to dry first, including the unwanted residue on the floor! If you try to remove this immediately you will unintentionally cause bigger problems. If you try to remove this while it has not yet dried, you will actually smear the glue all over the floor and there is a good chance that it will get into the structure of the floor, which is then quite difficult to remove. So letting the glue dry on the floor first is the best option, after about 2 hours of drying time you can easily rub off any glue residue with your finger. As a child, did you ever put glue on your fingers and let it dry, only to rub it off again? This is how you should do it, let it dry first, rub the spot with your finger and then you can remove the glue ball from the floor.

Can a Vinyl floor withstand vinegar?

To get straight to the point; no. We do not recommend cleaning Vinyl floors with cleaning vinegar. This is because Vinyl does not react well to the acid, which can damage the top layer and matte finish of the floor. As a result, vinegar is actually likely to cause stains on a floor, which, incidentally, are permanent in most cases. We therefore strongly advise against using vinegar on a floor.
