Do you feel like you’re searching for a needle in a haystack when trying to find the perfect floor for your upstairs? Look no further! In this blog, we will help you find the ideal floor and provide useful tips to consider during your search, such as finding a soundproof option.

What floor on the upstairs?

Are you in search of a flooring solution for your upstairs, but still unsure of what you need? We’re here to assist you in making the right choice. The upper floor is a space where your flooring needs to meet various requirements. Naturally, the floor should look attractive, but that’s not all. It’s where you start your day, get out of bed, and take a quick shower in the bathroom before heading to work. Consequently, the feel of the floor is also a significant factor. Additionally, the bedroom is a place for relaxation, which is why a light oak floor provides a calming and warm base on the upper floor. The flooring in the bedroom and bathroom should be moisture-resistant. While it’s less critical in the bedroom, it’s an essential factor in the bathroom. Therefore, choose a floor that is easy to maintain and moisture-resistant, such as water-resistant laminate or vinyl flooring. Would you like better acoustics in the bedroom, along with a quiet floor? Then choose one of the Akupanel Wall Panels and experience the ultimate tranquility in your bedroom!

What should a top floor meet?

What should a floor for the upper floor meet? In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, your living situation also plays a crucial role. The floor for your upper floor must be of top-of-the-line quality. Therefore, quality is of utmost importance. How can you determine if a floor is of good quality? The quality of a floor is mainly determined by its usage class. The higher the usage class, the better the quality of the floor. Although bedrooms, a landing, and perhaps a bathroom are not the most frequently used rooms in a house, they are places where different things are demanded of a floor. A floor for the upstairs must be able to withstand wear and tear and be of good quality. All laminate, vinyl, and rigid click vinyl floors fall into usage class 31 or higher, making them suitable for both residential and commercial use. Some collections are even suitable for industrial use! This ensures that you will have a durable floor that will last for years. If you plan to install the floor in the bathroom as well, water-resistant floors such as dryback vinyl floors are highly recommended.

Did you know?

Customers often choose two different types of flooring for different floors in their homes. For instance, a stylish herringbone floor may be chosen for the downstairs, while a straight plank floor is preferred for the upstairs. Why, you may ask? Generally, herringbone floors are more expensive to purchase than straight plank floors. Therefore, they are often chosen for the downstairs area, while a more economical option is preferred for the upstairs floor.

Meeting the 10 dB requirement

Do you live in an upstairs flat, or would you like to reduce the noise in your home? Consider using a floating floor in combination with a 10 dB certified underlay. This will prevent noisy disputes with your neighbours. If you live in an upstairs flat and need to meet the 10 dB requirement, it’s important to choose a subfloor that demonstrably reduces noise. If you don’t need to officially comply, you can opt for a soundproof floor. This is especially important if you have a family or if your partner has built a gym in one of the bedrooms. A soundproof floor provides better noise attenuation, allowing you to enjoy a cup of coffee downstairs without being disturbed by noise from above.

Bathroom floor

Do you want the upstairs floor to be reflected in the bathroom? You can! However, not every floor is suitable for this damp room. We recommend selecting a water-resistant floor, such as a dryback vinyl floor or a rigid click vinyl floor. Dryback Vinyl floors can be glued down, making them highly suitable for these damp rooms. For instance, you can lay a herringbone rigid click vinyl floor in the bathroom, but remember to seal the floor all around to minimize the risk of water getting underneath. Rigid click vinyl does not react to this, but we prefer to prevent a damp subfloor rather than cure it!

Tile floor

Looking for the right floor can be a challenging task, as there are many options available in terms of types, colours, laying patterns, and designs. For instance, you may opt for an oak-look floor in the bathroom, or you may prefer tiles. If you choose the latter, you can go for an attractive tile with a marble look, a tough concrete-look vinyl tile, or a robust slate black, among other options.
