At Floer, we refer to our collection of Hybrid Wood as revolutionary. But what makes it so innovative? And why do we claim that it has all the advantages of vinyl and laminate, without any of the drawbacks of parquet floors? In this blog, we speak to Stefan – Floer’s Product Manager, who wears a purple polo shirt, to learn more about Hybrid Wood. Read on to discover everything you need to know about this exciting new product!

Hybrid wood floors – so that’s not real wood?

On the contrary, this is actually real oak with a hybrid touch. The top layer of these wood floors is a very thin, yet extremely strong layer of oak that is pressed onto the carrier board in a special way with a lot of force. Then, the plank is lacquered with a tough, water- and scratch-resistant lacquer. This provides you with a unique combination of a real oak floor with the super-strong properties of vinyl.

Can you lay these floors by yourself?

Yes! Here’s where another cool and unique feature of Hybrid Wood comes in. Because the oak top layer is compressed onto the carrier board, we can add a Fastclick connection to each plank. You can now lay a real oak floor in no time, without the need for a parquet installer! Just make sure to use a suitable underlay, such as the Non-Contact Underlay. This underlay has an extremely low thermal resistance of only 0.007m²K/W! Additionally, the underlay reduces impact noise by up to 25%!

Is it possible to combine this Hybrid Wood floor with underfloor heating?

Underfloor heating has become increasingly popular in modern homes and new builds. At Floer, we ensure that our products keep up with current trends. Therefore, low heat resistance is a requirement for our new collection. The Floer floors in this collection have a low thermal resistance, making them ideal for underfloor heating. For example, a glued oak parquet plank that is 1.2 cm thick has a thermal resistance of 0.11 m²K/W. In comparison, a glued Hybrid Wood plank has a thermal resistance of only 0.07 m²K/W. This means that you will feel the warmth from your underfloor heating much faster with a Hybrid Wood floor compared to an oak parquet floor!

A wooden floor that is not fragile? Is that even possible?

Floer features a thin, rock-solid oak top layer, thanks in part to the special Wood Powder technology. This technology involves combining wood powder extracted from residual streams from woodworking with resin, providing an extremely sustainable way to make a fragile product much stronger. Try it out yourself by scratching over a sample with a key to experience its durability firsthand!

Are all boards and planks unique?

Yes, and that’s the beauty of Hybrid Wood! An ultra-thin oak wood top layer is used as a decorative layer, just like with traditional oak floors. As a result, you will not find identical floorboards in terms of design. While the planks may look similar, it’s because the oak is cut so thin. It’s the perfect choice for anyone who loves a natural look!

Can I sand a Hybrid Wood floor?

Sanding Hybrid Wood floors is not recommended. The top layer is primal and extremely strong, and finished with an Aqua Seal and Nature Protec topcoat, making sanding unnecessary. Additionally, it is scratch-resistant, so sanding is not required, as it would be with an oak parquet floor.

How long is the warranty on Hybrid Wood floors?

We are confident that Hybrid Wood floors are highly durable, both environmentally and in terms of lifespan. That’s why we offer a 25-year guarantee on our Hybrid Wood flooring. So you can enjoy your new floors for a long time!

What if there is moisture? What if I accidentally knock over a glass of wine?

If you spill moisture on your floor, don’t panic. Simply walk calmly to the kitchen and grab a cloth. The floor can handle it! With straight planks and a special Aqua Seal coating, these floors are water-resistant for up to 24 hours. So, there’s no need to worry about mopping up the mess. Hybrid Wood is easy to maintain, and with just a few simple steps, you can give your floor a fresh and clean look again.

Can I also lay my hybrid Floer bonded?

We have previously discussed how to lay Hybrid Wood flooring yourself. However, you can also choose to have these floors installed by gluing them down. Both methods produce excellent results but take a moment to consider which method suits you best. Are you planning to stay in your home for another decade or two? Then it is recommended to have your Hybrid floor installed by bonding it directly to the screed or subfloor. The result? A super sturdy joint that is rock solid and cannot be moved!

Can I walk on the Floer with heels?

Yes, you can walk across your Hybrid Wood floor in heels without any worries! The floors are highly pressure-resistant due to the strong natural backing and base plate. These boards are treated with innovative Wood Powder composite, making scratches and pressure points no longer an issue! 😉

Which wood species and finishes are available for Hybrid Wood?

Currently, our collection only includes one species of oak wood – and there’s a good reason for that! At Floer, we began by selling traditional oak parquet. Additionally, solid oak wood floors have never gone out of fashion: since the 18th century, these floors have been extremely popular. Furthermore, oak is available in different wood grades, which is reflected in our collection. The Hybrid Wood collection offers two types of oak floors, with subtle and rustic wood grading. So, there is a perfect Floer for everyone!

Rural rustic, or modern subtle? Hybrid Wood is there for any interior!

Can I cut Hybrid Wood just like wood?

Yes, you can cut Hybrid Wood just like you would a wooden beam or laminate floor. A sharp jigsaw or circular saw will make the job easier. If you don’t have these tools, you can also use an old-fashioned hand saw to cut a plank.

At Floer, we have noticed that Hybrid Wood floors in a natural oak colour, such as Pure, Cream, or Natural, are the most popular. The herringbone pattern is also highly sought after and we offer Hybrid Wood Herringbone floors in the same colours as the XL plank. Discover the beautiful Hybrid Wood Herringbone – Pure Oak for yourself today!

Now you know all about Hybrid Wood! The Hybrid Wood collection is a revolutionary range of floors enriched with extraordinary and innovative technologies. It offers not only durable and strong floors but also elegant and stylish ones! If you long for a floor that combines the warmth and charm of wood with the functionality and durability of laminate and vinyl floors, then Hybrid Wood floors are the perfect choice for you.
