If you are looking for a unique and stylish way to lay your floor, then wild bond may be something for you. Wild Bond is a pattern where different sizes and shapes of floor are laid in a random pattern. In this blog we will explain, among other things, what wild bond is and what are the advantages of this pattern. I can assure you that after reading this blog you will be completely crazy about the wild bond pattern 😉.

What is wild bond?

Traditional floor patterns, such as the block pattern or herringbone pattern, have a repeating pattern that is repeated throughout the room where the floor is located. Wild bond, on the other hand, is an asymmetrical pattern consisting of different sizes and shapes of straight planks of laminate, vinyl or parquet floor laid randomly. This creates a natural and organic look that is not repetitive. This means you don’t have to worry about patterns repeating in different parts of the room.

Installation of the floor in a random pattern

Laying the floor in a random pattern is very easy. The preparation is the same for almost every type of floor: make sure you have a suitable surface, the right sub-floor, an acclimatised (!) floor and the necessary tools. After all, good preparation is half the battle. Of course, you don’t have worry about the sub-floor when you’re laying dryback vinyl. Once you have done the necessary preparation, it is time to lay the floor in a random pattern. Once you have laid the subfloor for your oak parquet, wide laminate or Nature Click Vinyl floor, or applied the vinyl adhesive for your dryback vinyl floor, you are ready to lay the first plank.

For the first job, you use full planks and cut off the remaining part where you cannot fit a full board to the correct size. Use the rest of the piece at the start of the next row. Then you continue with full planks and use the leftover piece from the second row at the beginning of the third row. Repeat this until the floor is complete and you have laid your floor in a random pattern.

One of the main advantages of wild bond pattern is the ability to adapt the floor to the shape and size of the room. Because it is a random pattern, it is easy to adapt to the shape and size of the room. It can also help create the illusion of a larger room. Want to make the room look even bigger? Then go for an extra wide laminate floor. If you prefer an extra long plank, take a look at our Authentic Laminate collection.

Did you know there are financial benefits too?

Since you do not have to choose the size of the board at the beginning of each row and you can use the leftover piece, you have less waste. As a result, you need less square meters which is good for your wallet!

Combining wild bonds with the interior

Combining patterned floors with furniture can be a challenging task. It is important to ensure that the different elements of the room work together well and complement each other. A good way to combine patterned floors is to use them as the basis for a neutral colour scheme. This gives you the freedom to experiment with different textures and patterns in furniture and accessories. Keep in mind that the floor is the focal point of the room, so choose materials and furnishings that don’t compete for attention.

If you plan to combine patterned floors with wooden furniture, make sure that the wood of the furniture matches the colour and finish of the floor. Avoid using too much wooden furniture as it can overwhelm the room. Don’t forget that lighting plays an important role when combining patterned floors with other elements in the room. Provide adequate lighting to balance the different textures and colours of the room. Would you like an example from a customer who has done this before you?
