How to clean a laminate floor?

Cleaning and maintaining a laminate floor is simple, and we have good news: it’s easy! But how do you clean a laminate floor? It’s important to know what to do and what not to do. Using the wrong cleaning products can quickly lead to damage. You don’t want to damage your floor, of course. Read on to learn what you should and shouldn’t do.

Cleaning begins with proper vacuuming. Sand brought in from outside can abrade the top layer of the floor and cause scratches. By regularly vacuuming with an attachment, you can reduce or even prevent this damage. Most Floer laminate floors have an anti-scratch layer and are therefore scratch-resistant. This is true for the Herringbone and Country House Laminate floors, which are both extra-wide laminates. This means that your Floer floor is less likely to be damaged by sand or small stones. However, prevention is always better than cure, so using a vacuuming attachment is highly recommended.

Which cleaning agents should you use with laminate floors?

To achieve a spotless floor, it is recommended to use lukewarm water to clean laminate flooring. However, it is crucial that the floor does not get excessively wet or stay wet for prolonged periods, as this may cause damage and even permanent harm. A useful tip is to dry the floor with a cloth or to ventilate your house to expedite the drying process.

For more thorough cleaning, you can add a splash of cleaning vinegar to the water and wipe the floor with a microfiber cloth. Alternatively, you can use a mop to clean the laminate floor, but it is advisable to avoid getting the floor too wet. When using a mop or cloth, it is suggested to open windows and/or doors to facilitate faster drying. The sooner the floor dries, the better it is for the laminate.

Mistakes to avoid when cleaning

When cleaning laminate flooring, it is important to avoid using all-purpose cleaners or similar products. These can be harmful and cause the floor to become dull or even change its colour. Additionally, they can damage the protective top layer, which is something to avoid at all costs!

How to fix a damaged laminate floor?

Are you struggling with a floor that has been damaged by using the wrong cleaning products? Don’t worry, ammonia can help! Simply add a small amount of ammonia to a bucket of warm water and use it to thoroughly clean the floor. You may need to repeat this process several times to fully restore your floor’s natural appearance. After cleaning, it is recommended to dry the damp floor with a towel.

Steam cleaning laminate floors

Do you own a steam cleaner and use it to clean your floors? If so, you should stop doing this. The machine blows out steam at high pressure, and there is a high likelihood that moisture will get between the laminate planks. If moisture gets underneath the laminate floor and the underside remains damp, your floor may bulge, warp, and become irreparably damaged.

Instead, simply clean your laminate flooring with lukewarm water and a dash of cleaning vinegar. Be sure to dry the floor well with a cloth afterward. This will yield the best results and ensure that your floor lasts for a long time. And now it’s time to clean it the right way!
