Laying laminate floors
Laminate is known for its easy installation. The floor is laid floating on a subfloor and the planks have a convenient click connection. But laminate is versatile and there are different types. In this blog we will look specifically at straight laminate and Herringbone Laminate.
Installing straight laminate
Floer’s straight laminate floors are available in several collections, including extra wide laminate and retro laminate. Each collection uses a specific click connection. For example, the Country House and City Laminate collections have the Variclick joint, while the Authentic Laminate is equipped with the Fastclick joint. These connections make straight laminate flooring very easy to install. However, always check the installation instructions for each floor as the joints may be different. You may need to install your floor slightly differently from another laminate floor.
Installing (whale) herringbone laminate
Laying a herringbone floor is often a little more challenging than laying straight planks because of the different joints and the use of A and B planks. Creating a starting point may seem like a complicated puzzle, but FloerTube makes this task much easier. Once you have created a starting point, you can use it as a template for the rest of the starting points. With a Whalebone Laminate floor it’s a little easier; these floors have a universal click connection, so you don’t have to struggle with A and B planks.
Do-it-yourself vinyl floors
If laminate is not quite right for your living situation and you are looking for a floor that is 100% waterproof, you can choose vinyl, for example. Installing a glued vinyl floor can generally be a difficult job for an inexperienced installer. This is why we always recommend that you use a professional installer to lay your vinyl flooring. Fortunately, there is also Click Vinyl, the ideal do-it-yourself vinyl floor.
Tile, Nature & Country House Click Vinyl
Like laminate, there are several types of click vinyl available, including straight planks, herringbone and even tiles. Installing Nature and Country House Click Vinyl flooring is similar to installing straight laminate flooring. When laying a Country House Click Vinyl floor, it is important to use a rubber mallet for the final tap to ensure that the planks click firmly together.
(Whale) herringbone Click Vinyl
Vinyl and herringbone are a perfect combination, especially the XL herringbone floors which are very popular these days. These are often available as dryback vinyl. Fortunately, Floer also has a collection of do-it-yourself whalebone vinyl floors, for which we have several installation videos and articles to help you lay them.
Is laying a floor by yourself difficult?
Is it difficult to install a floor yourself? Laying a floating floor is not difficult, as long as you are well prepared and take your time. As they say, time is money. With the right preparation and patience, you can install a floating floor yourself without too much trouble.
Laying wooden floors yourself
Nothing conveys timeless charm like real wood floors. However, laying a wooden floor is not an easy task; often an oak parquet floor is glued, and if it is installed floating, it is glued into the groove. But then Hybrid Wood comes along, real wood DIY floors. These can be installed floating on a suitable subfloor and simply clicked together with the click connection. There is no glue involved. Of course, they can also be glued to the sub-floor, but this is often a more complicated job. As well as being easy to install, Hybrid Wood floors are also very easy to maintain, which is nice!
