Are you planning to buy wooden flooring? Then it’s important to pay attention to the different options, qualities, and prices of parquet flooring. In this article, you will learn about the various differences between parquet flooring options and what to consider when buying Oak Parquet floor.

Oakwood origin

There is a significant difference in the quality of oak wood floors offered online versus offline. European oak, which comes from France and several Eastern European countries, is considered high-quality oak. In contrast, oak from Asia is often slightly yellower in colour and of lower quality, as the trees grow faster. The longer a tree grows, the harder the oak wood becomes. Additionally, low-quality wood is often used as the underlay when processing oak parquet planks into a duo plank. The durability of an Oak Herringbone plank, for instance, is determined not only by the quality of the top layer but also by the lifespan of the entire plank, including the underlay. Therefore, using a low-quality underlay can result in lower durability of the plank.

Parquet floors from countries like China are often poorly glued, causing the top layer of the floor to come off after a short time. If you want to glue a multi-plank correctly, use high-quality glue. Another disadvantage of mass-produced parquet floors outside of Europe is that these multi-planks are often not made to measure. When you start laying the floor, this can cause problems such as gaps, mismatched joints, and an uneven floor surface. These problems often result in unusable boards. Additionally, the oak floor surface may need to be sanded flat again after laying.

To put it simply, a cheap, low-quality parquet may not actually be cheaper than a high-quality A-grade parquet due to additional costs. Therefore, it’s important to opt for a high-quality European parquet floor with a thick oak top layer, which ensures durability and longevity. Additionally, the floor can be sanded multiple times over the years to provide a refreshed appearance.
