Are you searching for a Floer with an atmospheric and stylish herringbone pattern, but want something unique? Consider choosing Whalebone floors! We offer them in laminate, rigid click vinyl, and dryback vinyl variants. Each type of flooring has its own specific features and benefits that will elevate your interior design. However, sometimes you may have trouble seeing the forest for the trees, or in this case: you may have trouble seeing the sea through the whales 😉 So, in this blog, we will answer the question: what types of Whalebone flooring are available?

What’s a Whalebone Floor?

The term “Whalebone floor” refers to a floor with an extra-large herringbone pattern. Like a standard herringbone pattern, the planks on a Whalebone floor are laid at a 45-degree angle to each other, creating a V-shaped pattern. To simplify, take a look at the pictures below to see the difference between Whalebone Vinyl and Herringbone Vinyl. Regardless of format, a (herringbone) patterned floor adds an attractive and stylish look to any room.

Which Whalebone Floors are there?

At Floer, we strive to be inclusive and provide a wide variety of flooring options, including three types of XL herringbone flooring: Whalebone Laminate, Whalebone Rigid Click Vinyl, and Whalebone Vinyl. A Whalebone Laminate floor

Attention all laminate lovers! There’s good news: the whalebone pattern is now available in a laminate variant! The Whalebone Laminate collection features four beautiful natural colours, ranging from dark brown to light oak. What sets this laminate apart from all other herringbone laminate flooring is the extra-large planks. With an impressive length of over 85 cm and a width of over 14 cm, this laminate flooring boasts larger floorboards than standard herringbone laminate flooring (64 cm by 14.3 cm).

Benefits XL Herringbone Laminate

Moreover, installing these floors is a breeze, thanks to the convenient Fastclick connection. The XL Herringbone Laminate floors have a beautiful tactile wood structure that makes them barely distinguishable from a real oak floor. These laminate floors have an AC4 usage class, making them suitable for high-traffic areas in homes, such as living rooms, hallways, or kitchens. This gives you the luxurious look of wood, with the durability and easy installation of laminate.

Water-resistant Laminate

Whalebone Laminate has a special feature: a water-resistant coating that makes the floors waterproof for up to 4 hours, even in the grooves. This means you don’t have to worry about spills in the kitchen, as these floors can easily handle it (just make sure to clean it up within 4 hours 😉 ).

Whalebone Rigid Click Vinyl

The Floer Whalebone Rigid Click Vinyl is the latest addition to the Whalebone flooring collection. The collection offers five beautiful colours of rigid click vinyl that may remind you of the original Whalebone Vinyl collection. Our most popular Whalebone Vinyl floors are now self-installing, combining design with functionality. The click floors feature extra-large herringbone floorboards, measuring 90 cm long and 15 cm wide, to give any room a spacious and luxurious look.

XL Herringbone Rigid Click Vinyl benefits

Rigid Click Vinyl is a type of flooring that combines laminate and dryback vinyl. The floors are made of plastic, making them 100% waterproof and ideal for use in wet areas such as kitchens or bathrooms. Water on the floor? No problem for Rigid Click Vinyl! Additionally, these floors have a low thermal resistance of just 0.019 m²K/W, making them perfect for use with underfloor heating and cooling systems.

One of the most notable features of Whalebone Rigid Click Vinyl is its MEGAMAT© finish, which gives the floors a super-matte finish and emphasizes the oak appearance of the boards. This finish eliminates any light reflection, ensuring that the sun won’t interfere with the floor’s appearance.

Do-it-yourself Whalebone Vinyl

Floer’s Rigid Click Vinyl floors, also known as DIY vinyl floors, are easy to install yourself, just like laminate floors. This is due to the click connection and the rock-solid “mineral core”. The Unidrop click connection makes laying a Whalebone Rigid Click Vinyl floor a quick and easy task. You can tap the planks into place using a rubber mallet at lightning speed. This means that you don’t need a professional parquet or flooring installer and can produce a beautiful XL herringbone floor even as a do-it-yourselfer!

Dryback Whalebone Vinyl

The Whalebone Vinyl is the original and most popular style in the herringbone flooring collection. It’s no surprise, as these extra-large dryback vinyl floors are incredibly durable and have a highly realistic appearance. The Whalebone Vinyl floors take the classic herringbone pattern and give it a modern twist. The floorboards are an impressive 91.4 cm long and 15.2 cm wide. These floors also feature a MEGAMAT© finish, providing a super-matte look that is nearly indistinguishable from real wood herringbone floors. The luxurious four-sided micro bevelling on the boards enhances the XL size of the floor, giving you the sensation of walking on a real XL herringbone wood floor.

Benefits XL Herringbone Vinyl

Dryback Whalebone Vinyl floors are available in a wide variety of styles and colours, including warm brown oak, dark brown walnut, and light oak herringbone. This allows you to perfectly match your floor to your personal taste and interior. The floors are extremely durable and scratch-resistant, thanks to the 0.55 mm thick PU wear layer. This makes them suitable not only for busy households but also for commercial areas with high foot traffic. Dryback Vinyl floors have the lowest thermal resistance (only 0.015 m²K/W!), making them the ultimate choice to lay on top of underfloor heating. This allows you to fully enjoy the warmth provided by underfloor heating. Additionally, Whalebone Vinyl floors are sound-absorbing, produced eco-friendly, and contribute to a healthy indoor environment.

Glued-down Whalebone Vinyl

Dryback Whalebone Vinyl floors are installed differently than the click variant; it’s in the name! Instead of using a click system, the planks are glued directly to the floor. This ensures a sturdy installation that will not shift. Furthermore, Dryback Vinyl floors can be laid directly against the wall or threshold, eliminating the need for skirting boards. The result is a seamless look that gives the floor a modern feel!
