The biggest difference between ‘fish’ is the material they are made of! Herringbone laminate flooring, with the convenient do-it-yourself click connection, is made up of a number of layers of different materials attached to a layer of compressed wood fibre. This compressed layer is also known as HDF. What is vinyl? A vinyl herringbone floor is made from a specific type of plastic called polyvinyl chloride.

Herringbone Vinyl flooring is available in two different materials, Click and Dryback Vinyl. The main difference between the two is that herringbone click vinyl is quite strong and comes with a convenient click connection. Herringbone Dryback Vinyl, on the other hand, is very flexible and needs to be glued to the sub-floor. Want to know more about these different materials? There is a big difference between adhesive and click vinyl, so do your homework!

The herringbone click vinyl floors have a unidrop click connection and the herringbone laminate floors have a fastclick connection. Do you want to know in advance how to install these floors? You can! Both herringbone laminate and herringbone vinyl floors are easy to lay yourself. At least if you opt for a do-it-yourself installation of Click Vinyl flooring! We recommend leaving the installation of a herringbone dryback vinyl floor to the professionals.

Water-resistant herringbone

There is a difference in water resistance between herringbone laminate and herringbone vinyl flooring. ‘But surely all fish can withstand water equally well?‘ Well, that’s not the case here. This is because herringbone vinyl floors are made from a 100% waterproof material. So it’s not so bad if a little water stays on the floor for a while. Herringbone laminate, on the other hand, is not resistant to prolonged standing water. It’s not a disaster if a splash of water gets on the floor, but make sure it doesn’t stay there for too long.

A herringbone laminate floor has many joints, which makes it more likely that water will get under the floor if you leave a puddle of water standing for a while. Has water got under the floor? Unfortunately, there is a good chance that it will affect the planks. ‘Like a fish on dry land’ is a phrase that comes in handy with herringbone laminate floors. Got water on your floor? Dry it! Vinyl herringbone floors are ideal for damp rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms. Are you planning to lay a vinyl herringbone floor in the bathroom? Make sure you use a water-resistant vinyl adhesive!

Which floor is suitable for underfloor heating?

Do you have underfloor heating in your home? Fortunately, you don’t have to sacrifice either option. In fact, because of their very low thermal resistance, these fish floors can be laid on top of a heated floor. However, there is a difference between the two in terms of thermal resistance. Herringbone laminate floors are 1.2 cm thick. Combined with a low thermal resistance subfloor, these floors are also suitable for underfloor heating. Want a floor that makes the most of your underfloor heating? Then choose herringbone vinyl. Herringbone vinyl flooring is ideal for use with underfloor heating due to the extremely low thermal resistance of the planks.

There is also a difference in thermal resistance between Click Vinyl and Dryback Vinyl, but this difference is so small as to be almost unnoticeable. Vinyl floors also have the advantage of feeling warmer than other floors in winter. In addition, a herringbone vinyl floor has a cooling effect in the summer. So if your bed gets too hot in the summer, you can consider lying on the floor. It might be a little less comfortable, but hey, it is worth a try.

How heavily is the floor used?

It is important to consider how the floor will be used. Sounds a bit strange, of course, because every floor is going to be laid somewhere, and ‘use’ is not the same as, say, using a toothbrush. By ‘use’ we mean how many people walk on it every day and how often. Both herringbone laminate and herringbone vinyl are suitable for intensive domestic use. However, there is a difference in scratch resistance between the two. How scratch-resistant is vinyl flooring? And how scratch-resistant is laminate? In this case, herringbone laminate is slightly more scratch resistant than herringbone vinyl. But it is easier to get rid of a scratch on a vinyl floor! Perhaps this is something to consider when making your decision.

Is there a lot of walking in your home and do you dislike the noise? If so, there are a number of things you can do about it. Vinyl floors by themselves have a quiet walking sound, but a quiet walking sound can also be achieved with a laminate floor. Choose the Floer Silent underlay and drastically reduce the sound of footsteps. For example, read about the differences between laminate and vinyl flooring and watch the video to see how the use of an underlay affects the sound of footsteps.

Small herringbone or XL herringbone?

As well as being made from different materials, herringbone floors also come in different sizes. Herringbone laminate flooring comes in planks that are 64 cm long and 14.3 cm wide. Then choose a Whalebone Vinyl! These XL herringbone vinyl floors come in planks that are a whopping 91.4 cm long and 15.2 cm wide. Not just extra long and extra wide herringbone!
