Different sizes, textures, and grooves. When you are looking for a new floor, the specifications will blow your mind. For each laminate and vinyl floor, the so-called ‘usage class’ is mentioned. But what does the usage class of a laminate or vinyl floor mean? We’ll explain it to you here!
The usage class of floors means the following
Not every laminate or vinyl floor receives a usage class, so having one is an advantage. This indicates that the floor has undergone extensive testing and meets the highest quality requirements within the EU.
The usage class of laminate or vinyl says something about how the floor can be used. It indicates what you can expect from the quality. Does the floor have a high class? Floors with a high durability rating have a higher quality compared to those with a low class and are suitable for rooms that have intensive use.
There are three categories into which the use classes are divided: residential use, commercial use, and industrial use. The higher the durability rating in the corresponding category, the better the quality of the laminate or vinyl floor. Check out the different categories below.
Usage class Residential use
The use class ‘Residential use’ consists of four levels: light, normal, normal/intensive, and intensive use. Check the table below to find out in which rooms the floors are suitable.
Usage class Commercial use
There are also four grades in this ‘Commercial use’ class: light, normal, normal/intensive, and intensive use. Wondering how strong your floor is? Find out here!
Usage class Industrial use
The highest durability rating is industrial use, and these floors are even suitable for use in a department store or airport. Unlike the other two classes, there are three levels in this category.
