Flooring Oak Herringbone Parquet – Untreated Oiled

Untreated oiled parquet

Floer’s oak parquet floors come in many different colours and sizes. You can choose from a black oiled floor, an aged parquet floor and even a sawn oak wood floor. But you can also opt for an untreated oiled floor! We can already hear you thinking – “Surely that’s a contradiction, untreated and oiled?” And yes, you’re right about that. What’s that really like, and what does untreated oiled mean? We’ll tell you in this blog!

What does untreated oiled mean?

It’s a mystery to many… How can a so-called untreated floor actually be oiled? It’s in the colour of the oil. By using a transparent oil, an oak parquet floor appears untreated and retains its original wood colour. Despite its untreated appearance, the floor is still protected from dirt, stains and wear and tear. So you could say that an untreated oiled floor is still treated, but with an invisible and transparent oil.

The difference between untreated and oiled

Within our oak parquet collections, you will find two types of untreated floors: the untreated parquet floors and the floors with an untreated oiled finish. So the difference is in the finish. Whereas an untreated oiled floor has already been treated in the factory, the completely untreated floor has not yet received an oil treatment. This untreated floor will therefore still need to be treated once it is laid. We recommend having a professional do this, but you can read how to oil a wooden floor here.

Why do you need to oil parquet?

When choosing an oak parquet floor, it is important that it is treated with oil as soon as it is laid. The oil forms a protective layer on the surface of the oak floor, making it more resistant to daily use. Additionally, you will preserve the natural look of the floor, as the oil fully absorbs into the wood and does not remain on the surface. Treating the floorboards with a transparent oil further emphasises the natural colour of the oak. And as icing on the cake, an oiled herringbone parquet floor is relatively easy to repair, should it be scratched or worn. You can do this by sanding the floor and re-oiling it. Tired of a certain colour floor? Sand that Floer and choose a different colour of oil! These benefits will also ensure a longer life for your parquet floor – nice and durable and better for the wallet!

Floer Hybrid Wood – Pure Oak Rustic

Untreated Hybrid Wood

Looking for a wooden floor with an untreated look, but don’t feel like a lot of maintenance? Discover Hybrid Wood! Within this collection, we do not use the term “untreated” because these wooden floors are definitely treated. Besides, we don’t want to be unclear about the maintenance of these floors – as they have already been treated with a special coating that makes oiling unnecessary. This is why we call hybrid floors that have an untreated look “pure”, so that people don’t unnecessarily use oil. So are you in the market for a hybrid floor with an untreated look? Then explore the Pure Oak Rustic or Pure Oak Subtle floors in this collection!

Other untreated floors

Sometimes some confusion arises about other types of flooring that have the name “untreated”. This is because we are often asked whether a Vinyl or laminate floor with an untreated shade still needs to be oiled. The answer to this is no. A laminate floor is finished with a coating that protects it from moisture and dirt. Vinyl floors do not need to be treated with an oil at all. These plastic floors have a rock-hard PU wear layer that protects the design of the floor. This is why extremely matt Vinyl floors, such as Whalebone Vinyl, do not need to be treated after they are laid!

Pssttt… Want to give your untreated oiled parquet floor a good scrub?

Then choose a Natural Floor Soap. With this maintenance product you will keep your Floer clean and “untreated” 😉
